The Board of Directors includes representatives from all major stakeholder groups who are experienced, senior level executives focused on addressing current challenges and identifying new opportunities to advance the industry. Supporting the Board of Directors are knowledgeable volunteers serving on committees that guide the implementation of the NASP’s strategic plan.
Gary M Cohen, BSPharm, RPh, CSP, CEO
Mr. Cohen is a healthcare business executive with over 30 years of experience in Pharmacy and Pharmacy related organizations including: Retail & Chain Pharmacy Management, Healthcare Publishing, Pharmacy Continuing Education, and Certification Boards.
His most recent position was Publisher of Specialty Pharma Journal, the leading journal servicing the Specialty Pharmacy Channel. He is currently serving as acting Executive Director for the Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board, and is one of the Founders of the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy. Prior to Specialty Pharma Journal, he was CEO of Synergy Healthcare Communications, a full service Managed Markets Communications Agency, and had also launched Pharmacy Powerx-Pak, a leading Pharmacy Education provider. He is a graduate of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy of Long Island University in 1981, and is currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Florida. He also possess an airman certificate.
Jim Smeeding, RPh, MBA, Executive Director
Jim Smeeding, RPh, MBA, is a founder of the Center for Pharmacoeconomic Studies at the University of Texas College of Pharmacy. His research interests are in applied pharmacoeconomics, systems integration and managed care. His pharmacy degree is from the University of Buffalo and his MBA from the University of Texas. Over the past 39 years his practice orientation has been in hospital pharmacy, clinical services design, home infusion therapy, managed care services, and disease management.
The TPG National Payor Roundtable is an educational company that brings product and service offerings to managed care decision makers. Education and access are the key points of contact that TPG-NPRT brings to its client customers and payor medical decision makers.

Jim’s private clients constitute the spectrum of pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, diagnostic testing and all classes of pharmacy affairs – hospital, retail, chain, managed care, academic and research. His broad expertise in professional affairs has allowed his clients to understand, approach and impact medical and pharmacy affairs from product selection through to the value proposition as well as professional communications, patient communications and safety. Jim is widely known for his broad interests and his ability to moderate a program to bring out cogent learning points and make the educational program applicable to practice.
Gerry Crocker, Industry Relations
Gerry Crocker is currently supporting NASP in its business development efforts, Gerry Crocker was most recently CEO of Community Specialty Pharmacy Network (CSPN). CSPN is comprised of more than 200 community based specialty pharmacies with stores operating in 47 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico. CSPN’s member pharmacies are known for being "centers of excellence” in disease management. CSPN’s network of pharmacies is the nation’s 8th largest specialty pharmacy provider; CSPN serves as the central contracting agent for its members in the specialty provider network arena, pharmaceutical manufacturer rebate initiatives, and in-patient adherence and compliance programs. Previous to CSPN, Gerry was CEO and President of the Board of Directors for CARE Pharmacies, Inc. Gerry was Vice President of Retail and Alternate Care Sales for Cardinal Health East Group prior to his role at CARE Pharmacies. Gerry holds a Business Administration Degree from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI.
